Our Bollywood has been always obsessed with the mainstream poor boy and rich girl love story, which is very apparent in debutant director Abhiraj Minawala’s “Loveyatri”. The film, earlier titled “Loveratri”, is produced by Salman Khan’s production house Salman khan Films, starring debutant actors Ayush Sharma and Warina Hussain.
After a lot of controversy regarding its previous title, the film finally got released on October 5 (Friday). Unfortunately, the film could not do well at the box office as it managed to earn only Rs 2 crore on its opening day. According to a report by Box Office India, "LoveYatri grossed in the 1.75 - 2 crore net range.
The plot is too clichéd- the film is set in Vadodara, Gujrat where a middle class boy Shushrut aka Susu (Aayush Sharma) is a Garba dance teacher who is a good-for-nothing boy in his father’s eyes and dreams of opening a dance academy of his own. On the other side is Michelle aka Manisha (Warina Hussain) who is a class topper in London; daughter of a powerful businessman, played by Ronit Roy. Her only demand from her father is a trip to India which is fulfilled at the festive time of Navratri. As she departs for India; that is where Susu and Michelle’s love story begins. But before their love story reaches the next stage, a misunderstanding drifts the two apart and Michelle flies back to London.
The second half of the film is full of mainstream ‘masala’ dramas and those ‘roothna-manana’ scenes. There is a cool mama (played aptly by Ram Kapoor) to help his bhanja get the love of his life. The only advantage of the film is the songs; most of them dance tracks, which kept the audience tied to their seat. Otherwise, this 140- minute long film gives us nothing new on the table. In a word, the film is a complete “mindless entertainment”.
