Guwahati, October 29, 2019:

Northeast-themed Nicholas Kharkongor directorial 'Axone' recently earned a standing ovation at the recently held 21st Jio MAMI film festival in Mumbai.

Sayani Gupta, the leading actress, is upbeat after the glowing praise it received in the premier film festival.

She told mediapersons that Axone has premiered in BFI London Film Festival in front of a diaspora audience, but its true litmus test came at the MAMI festival, mainly comprised of an Indian audience. However, it passed the test with flying colors.

The leading lady informs that all the three screenings of the film were houseful and the audience was constantly engaging with the film. The second screening even had a standing ovation!

"Axone" is a bittersweet satire that follows immigrants in Delhi who are attempting to organise a wedding party, but soon everything goes wrong when they attempt to cook 'axone', a pungent-smelling dish made of fermented beans, mainly cooked in Nagaland.

The film also highlights the subtle racism faced by the people of Northeast India in the Hindi-speaking areas of India.

The film is expected to be released sometime later this year. "Axone" also features Lin Laishram, Tenzin Dalha, Vinay Pathak and Dolly Ahluwalia in key roles.
