70-Year-Old Dies After Being Hit with Brick by Hong Kong Protesters

Hong Kong, November 15, 2019:

A 70-year-old cleaner was killed in a Hong Kong protest after he was apparently struck on the head by a brick amid protest clashes earlier this week.

The 70-year-old cleaner, who was sub-contracted by the Hong Kong government, died overnight after being hit by a brick. He was hit during his lunch break near the North District Town Hall on Wednesday.

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) released a statement confirming the death of the outsourced cleaning service contractor, said reports.

The official statement read, “We have requested the service contractor to follow up the labor insurance and compensation matters promptly.” It also added that the police will do everything to investigate the case and bring the offenders to justice.

Hong Kong has been witnessing a steep rise in violence with demonstrations ending in clashes since the beginning of the protest. Several people have also been injured in these clashes.

One other was also reported to be seriously injured which includes a 15-year-old who was hit in the head by a tear gas canister.
