Five men have been sentenced to death in the murder case of the US-based Journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
Khashoggi, who was working with the Washington Post as a columnist and was known for his critical take on the Saudi government, was murdered in 2018.

Eight men have been found guilty of murdering Khashoggi, out of which, three have been given a total of 24 years in prison for their association with the murder.
The investigation stated that the crime was not planned and that it was decided at the spur of the moment. The deputy public prosecutor and spokesperson Shalaan bin Rajih Shalaan said that three senior figures, including the de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s former top adviser, Saud al-Qahtani, were cleared of wrongdoing during the trial.

It may be mentioned here that earlier, the CIA and other western intelligence agencies concluded that Prince Mohammed had directly ordered Khashoggi’s assassination, an allegation that the kingdom had denied.
