Sudan PM Abdalla Hamdok and other Govt officials detained in apparent coup

KHARTOUM: Sudan security forces have taken its Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok to an unknown location after he refused to deliver a statement in support of an ongoing coup, the information ministry.
According to the information ministry, while soldiers also detained many civilian leaders.
"Civilian members of the transitional sovereign council and a number of ministers from the transitional government have been detained by joint military forces," the ministry said in a statement on Facebook.
Sudan has been on edge since a botched coup attempt last month sparked bitter recriminations between military and civilian factions who were supposed to share power following the ouster of long-time leader Omar al-Bashir.
Following months of public protests in 2019, Al-Bashir was deposed, and a political transition agreed upon after his ouster was to lead to elections by the end of 2023.
