Guwahati, January 1, 2020:

As many eight soldiers were killed during a Taliban attack on Wednesday at Balkh province in Afghanistan, said reports.

The incident was reported late at night in Darqad district where a group of Taliban attacked a joint forces checkpoint.

Reportedly, Balkh highway police commander, Fawad Saleh, said that the attack took place at a highway police checkpoint in Alam Khail village of Balkh province on Tuesday night.

During the attack, 14 soldiers were present at the checkpoint, located on the Balkh-Jawzjan highway. Among them, six soldiers survived the attack.

According to local reports, the Taliban conducted the attack with the help of an infiltrator.

However, no claims have been made from the Taliban side.

Earlier to this week, at many as seven soldiers were killed and six security personnel were injured after Taliban insurgents attacked a joint military camp in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan.

Taliban militants have renewed armed insurgency, killing government troops as well as civilians.
