The march, held one day prior to the country's 71st Republic Day, saw the participation of a huge contingent of non-resident Indians, displeased with the current state-of-affairs. The march was held opposite Downing Street and comprised thousands of Londoners who had come together to condemn the Indian Government's recent policies.

The protest was reminiscent of the many large-scale protests against the CAA-NRC-NPR combo in Indian metropolitan cities. The peaceful march saw several Londoners carrying banners of revolt. At the same time, many tricolor Indian flags could also be discerned in the crowd.

It may be mentioned here that the international community continues to be up-in-arms against the amendment of the Citizenship Act, which grants citizenship on the basis of religion.

Meanwhile, the United Nations on December 26 stated that the act is fundamentally discriminatory and urged the Supreme Court of India to carefully consider the compatibility of the law with India’s human rights.

"We are concerned that India’s new Citizenship Amendment Act is fundamentally discriminatory in nature & hope the Supreme Court of #India will consider carefully the compatibility of the law with India’s int'l human rights obligations", tweeted out the UN from its official handle.
