IMPHAL: Assam Rifles on November 23 recovered smuggled wild boar meat and timber ferried across the border from neighbouring Myanmar in Manipur.
The Assam Rifles launched an operation based on credible inputs about smuggled timber and wild boar meat being ferried from Somra Tract in Myanmar towards Ukhrul through the area of BP 125-126. "One column of Assam Rifles troops moved towards the said area on November 23 and found newly created Kundagari tracks from South of BP 125," an official said.

According to reports, at 8 pm, the Assam Rifles troops intercepted and seized 12 individuals along with four Kundagaris carrying illegal timber, and two Maruti Gypsy vehicles carrying killed bear, and three single-bore guns.
Upon interrogation, the detained persons revealed that they were indeed smuggling timber and had killed the bear in Ngacham, Myanmar. "The apprehended persons were moving as an organized group with most of them wearing camouflaged dresses and jungle shoes," officials revealed.

The Chingai Police Station was informed about the recovery and apprehensions at 11 pm. The apprehended persons along with vehicles have been handed over to the Chingai Police Station for further action.
