The CBI is today conducting searches at 9 locations including Aizawl, Imphal, Gurgaon, in a case relating to 'misappropriation' of Government funds. Former Manipur CM O Ibobi Singh is an accused in the case.
It is to be mentioned here that the CBI has registered cases against O Ibobi Singh, the then Chairman, Manipur Development Society (MDS); Y. Ningthem Singh, former Project Director of MDS; D.S. Poonia, IAS,, the then Chairman of MDS; P.C. Lawmuknga, IAS (Retd.), the then Chairman of MDS; O. Nabakishore Singh, IAS (Retd.), the then Chairman; Sh. S. Ranjit Singh, Administrative Officer, MDS, among others, at the behest of the Manipur Government, and further notification from Government of India.

It was alleged that the accused, while working as Chairman of Manipur Development Society from 30 June 2009, to 6 July 2017, in conspiracy with others, misappropriated Government funds to the tune of Rs 332 crore out of the total amount of Rs 518 crore (approx.) which was entrusted to them for the purpose of executing some developmental works.
Notably, Ibobi has been making headlines lately and reaching the power corridors of Delhi, Ibobi sought assurance from senior leaders from across the political aisle that the final settlement of Naga peace talks will not affect Manipur and that concerned stakeholders will be consulted prior to the inking of a final agreement between the Centre and the Government of India.
