Centre extends ban of eight Manipur rebel groups

Guwahati, November 14, 2018:

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has extended the ban on eight insurgent outfits in Manipur for another five years.

In a notification, the MHA said the ban was being extended because the outfits groups indulged in multiple unlawful activities.

The banned outfits are Peoples’ Liberation Army, Revolutionary Peoples’ Front, United National Liberation Front, Manipur Peoples’ Army, Peoples’ Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, and its armed wing “Red Army”, Kangleipak Communist Party and its armed wing Kanglei Yaol Kanba Lup, Coordination Committee and Alliance for Socialist Unity Kangleipak.

The notification stated, “They have been indulging in acts of intimidation, extortion and looting of civilian population for collection of funds for their organisations.”

According to the ministry, the outfits were involved in at least 756 violent incidents since January 2013. At least 86 people were also killed due to their activities.
