Commercial helicopter service was launched in Manipur on Wednesday.
A helicopter of the Pawan Hans took wings from Imphal to the hill township of Jiribam. Later, it flew back to Imphal. Official sources said the Imphal-Jiribam-Imphal helicopter service would be in place every day except for Sunday and public holidays.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh said the state government was seeking the service ever since its formation in March last year.
“From Day 1, this government had been seeking to launch the helicopter service. Gradually, the service will be extended to all the hilly towns including Moreh,” Singh said.
The helicopter service will help in speedy carriage of people on emergency, particularly patients, to Imphal.
