IMPHAL: The Manipur government has opened a COVID hospital, exclusively for male patients, at Bal Bhawan complex here.
As many as 17 patients were admitted to the new 235-bedded hospital on the inaugural day.
The hospital was closed down in December last year after COVID-19 cases declined in the state.
In addition to this, another 200-bedded COVID hospital, exclusively for female patients, is likely to be opened soon at the National Sports University (NSU) office complex here.
The female COVID-19 patients are currently housed at the 64-bedded Covid Care Centre at the state family welfare complex.
Moreover, the Manipur government is planning to activate the 600-bedded Covid Care Centre at Lambui Khongnangkhong in Imphal West district, which was closed following a decline in COVID-19 cases in the state.
The opening of the new COVID hospitals comes amid the surge in COVID-19 positive cases in the state.
