Imphal, August 12, 2019:

Ahead of the 73rd Independence Day Celebrations, security measures have been beefed up at the sensitive places across the state which has resulted in the arrest of two tribal rebels in this sensitive border state.

Two hardcore cadres of Hmar People Convention-Democratic, HQ Faction (HPC- D) involved in tax collection and several nefarious activities in the area of Pherzawl and Tipaimukh, which share borders with Myanmar and Mizoram, were arrested with a large quantity of warlike stores including explosives, uniforms and important documents in the counter-insurgency operation launched by the Assam Rifles Battalion under aegis of Red Shield Division, a statement of PIB (Defence Wing) said.

The two cadres have been later identified as self-styled Sergeant Thangrosung Mengha, Commander of Tipaimukh Area and self- styled Sergeant Lai Sanga Hmar.

The seized items have been handed over to the police for further investigation and police have confirmed that a case has been registered.

It may be mentioned that powerful underground outfits of the northeastern India – Coordination Committee (CorCom), and United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA)-I along with the intense support of freedom lovers of the Indigenous communities, have called upon the people to boycott the ’73rd Independence Day Celebrations of India’ in the entire region with a General Strike starting from 1:30 am of August 15 to 6:30 PM.
