IMPHAL: The Manipur government declared summer vacation on Monday for all schools under the state board and higher secondary council from May 1 to 31, 2021, citing a "unprecedented increase" in the number of new COVID-19 cases in the state.
For the entire month, all government aided and private schools affiliated with the Manipur Board of Secondary Education and the Manipur Council of Higher Secondary Education will be closed.

On April 26 Manipur's School Education Commissioner, T Ranjit Singh, issued an official notification in this regard.
All heads of institutions in Manipur including principals, vice-principals, headmasters and headmistresses have been guided to make arrangements for detailing at least four to five staff members by creating a regular roster .
The order also directs officials to ensure their attendance in the institutions and to perform any required official duties during their vacation.

The official order also specified that all appropriate arrangements for the start of online classes should be made before the summer vacation begins.
On Tuesday, Manipur's COVID-19 count had risen to 30,742 after 175 more people tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total number of people infected with the virus to 393.
