Manipur extends complete lockdown till August 31, active COVID-19 cases stand at 1825

Manipur government has extended the complete lockdown across the state till August 31st, 2020 amid rising COVID-19 cases.

The state has currently 1825 active COVID-19 cases while 2360 have been cured and discharged and 13 people succumbed to the infection so far in the state.

Assam has registered highest number of COVID-19 cases in the Northeast followed by Tripura, which has 1796 active cases while 5088 have recovered and 50 succumbed to the infection so far.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 tally has gone up to 74501 in Assam; of which 22630 are still active and 51693 have recovered while the death toll has increased to 175.

India recorded a single-day spike of 65,002 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data. This takes the total number of cases in India to 25,26,193. The country reported 996 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 49,036. Globally, more than 21 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus, with at least 7,59,411 deaths, according to a Reuters tally. The United States has the highest number of confirmed cases at 5,271,087, followed by Brazil (3,224,876), and India (2,461,190).

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India is testing for three different vaccines for the novel coronavirus infection in the country. “Today, three vaccines are in testing stages in India. As soon as the scientists give a green signal, the country will begin their large scale production,” he said. Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort, he also paid tributes to all the Corona warriors in the country.
