IMPHAL: A Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday submitted the petitions filed against Sagolband legislator RK Imo Singh and Saikul (ST) legislator Yamthong Haokip who left the party to join the BJP to Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Yumnam Khemchand seeking their disqualification under several provisions of the Indian Constitution.
Earlier, Yamthong Haokip representing Saikul (ST) Assembly Constituency as a Congress MLA joined the BJP along with RK Imo Singh, the sitting Sagolband A/C MLA who was declared by the Speaker as a legislator without any political affiliation on November 8 this year by violating Article 191 of the Indian Constitution.
MPCC submitted a petition to the Speaker seeking the disqualification of the legislators under the rules for disqualifying MLAs mentioned under Article 191 of the Indian Constitution and para two of sub clause one under the Tenth Schedule of the constitution which vividly describe that an MLA must be disqualified if he leaves his political party, MPCC General Secretary Soibam Jeeten said while addressing the media at the main gate of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
