Manipur recorded a highest-ever spike of 124 COVID-19 cases and one death in the last 24 hours pushing the state’s total to 3217.
Of the 3,217 confirmed cases, 2,681 are from the general population, and 536 are from the central security forces. Meanwhile, the total number of active cases has gone up to 1,304 and 1905 have recovered.
Meanwhile, the death toll has increased to eight with one more patient succumbed to the infection.
Out of the 124 new cases, 21 are returnees from other states, and nine belong to the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). The remaining 94 are locals without any significant travel history, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.

The infected returnees are from the districts of Kangpokpi (11), Kamjong (4), Kakching (3), Churachandpur (2) and Bishnupur (1), wherein the 94 infected persons with no travel history belong to Imphal West (38), Thoubal (35), Kangpokpi (12), Imphal East (10), Churachandpur (7), Kakching (6), Kamjong (4) and Bishnupur (3).
Assam has registered highest number in the Northeast followed by 1957 active cases in Tripura, 1755 in Nagaland, 1304 in Manipur, 640 in Meghalaya, 475 in Sikkim and 251 in Mizoram.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has asked the Centre to issue guidelines on the development of vaccines for coronavirus besides decentralising the authority for fast-tracking testing and approvals. The Centre has said that till date 9.30 lakh Indians have returned home under the Vande Bharat Mission to bring back Indian nationals who were stranded abroad during the coronavirus-induced lockdown across the world. In comparison, over 1.20 lakh foreigners were sent back to their native places during the mission.
