Former Chief Minister and leader of Congress Legislative Party, Okram Ibobi has alleged that tension between hills and valley has been caused due to hidden agenda imposed on Manipur whenever BJP comes to power at the centre.

Okram Ibobi was speaking at the protest meeting held at Congress Bhavan on BT Road against Framework Agreement between Govt of India and NSCN-IM and Citizenships Amendment Bill 2016 organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.

President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, TN Haokip, Former Deputy Chief Minister, MLA Gaikhangam, former and current Congress’ MLAs and several party workers and sympathisers attended the protest meeting.

The leader of Opposition, Okram Ibobi further mentioned that Congress wholeheartedly welcomes political solution of NSCN-IM. However, BJP led government at the centre has the habit of not consulting state concerned. He cited that BJP led government did not take state government into confidence when framework agreement was signed.

Ibobi also stated that centre had asked him to sign on the agreement, but he refused to do so as the contents of the agreement were not made public. He said any attempt to create an autonomous council on the ethnic line to appease a particular community will sow seed for the disintegration of Manipur. Stand for Congress party that not an inch of Manipur’s land should be compromised has been made very clear and BJP should never do anything that would cause bloodshed in the state.

Chief Ministers of states concerned were always consulted by interlocutors of Naga Peace Talk when Congress was in power at the centre. However, interlocutors would come and hold talks with hidden agenda under the NDA government at the centre.
