Imphal (Manipur), 2 Aug 2018:
In a major development, embattled Manipur University Vice-chancellor (VC) Adya Prashad Pandey has been given a 30-day leave with effect from Thursday.
In his absence, Professor W Vishwanathan Singh of Life Science Department has been given the responsibility to discharge the functions of VC.
However, Vishwanathan has stated that he would not take up the charge on the ground that it would hamper his teaching and research activities.
Manipur University is facing a complete shut down since early June as students and faculty members are up in arms demanding Pandey’s removal.
The VC has been accused of misappropriation of funds, besides committing other irregularities.
