Manipur: World Meetei Council organise Sit-in Protest in Delhi

After the 72-hours long general strike in Manipur, World Meetei Council ( WMC ) has intensified its demand for the inclusion of Meetei\Meitei in the Schedule Tribe List of the Indian constitution.

Imphal: After the 72-hours long general strike in Manipur, World Meetei Council ( WMC ) has intensified its demand for the inclusion of MeeteiMeitei in the Schedule Tribe List of the Indian constitution.

The WMC's Delhi Unit has organized a sit-in protest in Delhi. MeeteiMeiteis even being an indigenous people of the state of Manipur, this community is not allowed to live in any hill areas of the state, they are confined to a mere 7% of the total land area of the state.

Recently the population data shows the Meetei community population is coming down heavily in comparison with other communities and the young generation of the state has started expressing their fear of becoming extinct and started finding ways to protect themselves.
