PM Narendra Modi salutes the efforts of a small distant village in Manipur  that created history when it became the last village in India to get electricity supply.

Manipur's Leisang village is now part of the national power grid  that shows Narendra Modi government’s flagship programme Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana.

Hailing the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and shared some photos that showed the arduous task of rural electrification.

‘28th April 2018 will be remembered as a historic day in the development journey of India. Yesterday, we fulfilled a commitment due to which the lives of several Indians will be transformed forever! I am delighted that every single village of India now has access to electricity,’ PM Modi said.

"India has in the last three years improved on all macro-economic indicators. India must be an engine of growth as well as an example in climate friendly development in the years to come," the Prime Minister had said during annual meeting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Gujarat Gandhinagar.

According to a 2016 report, the Centre had decided to provide power to 18,452 villages by May 1, 2018.
