Civil society groups and social activists in Manipur have launched a massive protest in state capital Imphal on Thursday, against the Centre’s move to implement the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. The Manipur People Against CAB (MANPAC) have also extended support to the agitators.

The people of the state have moved to the streets chanting slogans against the Citizenship Bill and holding placards decrying the 'jati destroying' Bill. School and college going students from Imphal have also joined the protest.
The members of civil society, students’ bodies, intellectuals, and the general public have come under one roof to oppose the bill by any means.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students Association (KSA), Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and Apunba Ireipaki Maheiroi Singpanglup (AIMS) under the umbrella of Manipur People Against CAB (MANPAC) has announced to form a human chain and seek support from schools, colleges and other institutions of the State to stand against the Bill.

Meanwhile, many BJP leaders have resolved to re-introduce the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the upcoming Parliamentary session.
People in Manipur have been opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill tooth-and-nail, which, they claim, is against the interest of the indigenous people of the region.
