SENAPATI: United Naga Council (UNC), a conglomerate of civil society organizations, yesterday urged the Government of India to recognize the Naga national flag and Constitution. The demand for a separate Naga National Flag and Constitution has proved to be a major roadblock in the peace talks, with the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isaak-Muivah) refusing to budge from its stand.
The United Naga Council (UNC) during Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Manipur on Sunday, thanked him for the initiatives taken by his government towards finding a "logical conclusion of the Indo-Naga political peace process."

Penning down a memorandum to Shah, the UNC reaffirmed the declaration of the Naga people's mandate given to the collective leadership of NSCN on January 21, 2005 to settle the Indo-Naga political issue. The UNC stated that it "should be accepted and honoured based on the unique history and situation of the Nagas."
The UNC further added that "with regard to Naga territory or Naga areas from time immemorial, the Nagas living in the present state of Manipur have lived in our own ancestral domain with well-defined traditional boundaries. We do not share common land, origin or history with any other communities nor have we infringed upon the territories of any other community."
