A delegation of seven BJP MLAs met with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan to urge action against those responsible for desecrating the "Salai Taret Flag," or "Flag of Kangleipak", a revered symbol of the Meitei community.
The MLAs, including Karam Shyam, Kh Ibomcha, Sapam Ranjan, Usham Deben, RK Imo, and Dinganglung Gangmei, discussed multiple issues affecting the state during their meeting with the Governor.
Speaking to the media today, MLA Kh Ibomcha reported that the delegation appreciated the Governor's efforts to manage the situation in Manipur while conveying public dissatisfaction over restricted movement on national highways despite the imposition of President's Rule.
The delegation particularly highlighted concerns about a recent viral video showing suspected Kuki militants desecrating the Salai Taret Flag at Thangjing Hill.
"Governor expressed that he will take action against those who are involved in disrespecting the Salai Taret Flag. He even mentioned about Kangpokpi incident of some players playing football, hanging sophisticated weapons and how swiftly action was taken upon them. Likewise, he assured to take appropriate action against those involved in desecrating the Salai Taret Flag," Ibomcha stated.
The MLAs also urged the expedited opening of national highways and peace talks, along with addressing several humanitarian concerns, including crop compensation distribution, financial assistance for internally displaced persons' housing, compensation for private educational institutions used by security forces since May 3, 2023, and adequate security deployment at IDP housing construction sites.
The viral video that sparked outrage in the Meitei community shows individuals identified as suspected Kuki-Zo militants in military-style uniforms with firearms kicking and stomping on the Meitei flag. Multiple civil society organisations have condemned the incident and demanded strict action against the perpetrators.
