Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has appealed the central forces to take the current crisis in the state seriously and protect the life and property of its people.
The appeal was made during the 52nd Statehood Day observance ceremony held at 1st MR Parade Ground on January 22. Expressing concern over the continuous killing of innocent people in recent days, Singh described the situation in Manipur as 'very unfortunate'.
He emphasised that the primary duty of security forces is to prevent harm and protect the life and property of the people, as well as to uphold state and national integrity. He urged the security forces to focus on these issues to safeguard the lives of innocent people and maintain territorial integrity.
To a query on viral video of Ningthoukhong murder case by alleged Kuki militants where the place is protected by central forces, Biren said that the state government is examining the video whether it is fabricated or genuine one.
Biren said that government strongly condemns the recent brutal killing incident of Haotak and Ningthoukhong. Targeting the innocent civilians is cowardly act.
“State government usually convert words into action. The state government has arrested the accuse who had killed SDPO Chingtham Anand. Similarly in these two incidents of Haotak and Ningthoukhong, we strongly condemn….,” he stated.
Biren also informed that meeting was held with his MLAs and ministers yesterday and today will also convene to take concrete decision.
Stating about Statehood ceremony, Biren said that “Being a state, today is a proud moment for all of us. Earlier we were kept in pars-state and union territory. In 1972 we have given statehood. But I am not fully satisfactory because of some element trying to divide the state. But anyway, we are enjoying now as a state.
As a part of the programme, march past was performed by various contingents. MLAs, ministers and high ranking official were also attended in the statehood ceremony.
