Protesting students from Manipur met with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, demanding immediate action on their six-point charter of demands. The students have given the authorities a 24-hour ultimatum to address their grievances.
The key demands include:
- Immediate removal of the current Security Advisor and Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur.
- Transfer of unified command to the Chief Minister and the elected state government.
- Withdrawal of Central Paramilitary forces, which the students claim are ineffective.
- A call for the 50 MLAs of Manipur (excluding the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs) to announce their stance and act decisively or resign.
- A demand for the Government of India to stop its alleged proxy war against the Meeteis/Meiteis and either support Manipur or withdraw.
- An ultimatum stating that if the state fails to protect the Meeteis/Meiteis, the students will escalate their protest using all available means.
The protests turned intense as students attempted to breach security at the Chief Minister’s residence and Raj Bhawan. Although their efforts were blocked by security forces, they continued with a sit-in protest outside the Raj Bhawan. Some students were allowed to meet the Governor and present their memorandum.
Following the meeting, the sit-in continued. Frustration led to stone-pelting at the Raj Bhawan, prompting a tear gas response from the authorities to disperse the agitated crowd. The students have vowed to maintain their protest until their demands are met.
