Concerned about the ongoing crisis in Manipur, the Manipuri diaspora submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh with a list of a charter of demands and urged the stance of the state government
Today three Manipuri diaspora associations namely the World Meetei Council, Meetei Yaipha Lup and Global Manipur Federation submitted a joint memorandum to the chief minister asking the way forward for the government to shun the violence.
The memorandum stated that the recent incidents and their spiralling escalation have raised serious questions about the government’s ability to maintain peace and order in the state.
The associations noticed the failures of the present government in multiple aspects that made them consider a robust democracy.

Urging to let people aware of the stance of the government, some of the questions raised in the memorandum are what concrete steps have been taken up by the government to ensure the safety and security of all communities, how does the government plan to hold accountable those responsible for instigating and perpetrating the violence, what measures are being implemented to promote inter-community dialogue and reconciliation, what measures has the government set in place to counter the various negative narratives it has received in the international as well as forums like UN, European Parliament etc.
The memorandum also urged to reinstate law and order in the state, open national highways, initiate action to find the missing persons immediately and coordinate a concerted effort to destroy illegal poppy plantations.
It also stated that the association would be highly appreciated if the government bears in mind that a majority of citizens in Manipur oppose the extension of the Suspension of Operation agreement. The associations also urged the state government to urgently send socio-economic and ethnographic status reports of Meeteis to the central government in light of Scheduled Tribe demand.
