Khliehriat: At least 6 miners have died in a coal mining accident inside an abandoned coal mine in East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya. All 6 reportedly hail from Assam.
According to sources, the coal mining accident took place in Deinsala in Rymbai earlier today. The bodies of the deceased, who were rushed to the Khliehriat health centre after the accident, were pronounced dead by medical professionals. Their bodies are now being kept in the morgue at Khliehriat.
Upon being contacted, East Jaintia Hills SP Deepak Kumar Palecha said that the local administration will reveal more information about the accident "in the evening."

It may be recalled that on December 13, 2018, 15 miners were trapped in a mine in Ksan, in the Indian state of Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district after water from the nearby Lytein river gushed into it.
The mine was illegal because of the technique used. The 'rat-hole' technique was banned by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in 2014.
