SHILLONG: The administrator and members of a social media group has been summoned and warned with legal actions by East Khasi Hills district police for calling out citizens to come out in large number during the pandemic.
The Shillong based group published a post on their group inviting public to come out in large numbers on June 2021 at Jaiaw Student's field and march to the Meghalaya Secretariate to protest against the COVID-9 lockdown and vaccination measures by the government.
In this this regard the East Khasi hills district police identified and summoned the Admin of the group along with some other members.
The police warned the summoned members of legal action if corrective steps are not taken.
In a statement, Sylvester Nongtnger, SP East Khasi Hills said that, "Due to high incidence if COVID-19 cases and rise in deaths, such irresponsible step would lead to violation of the lockdown which is meant to control the pandemic and will only be a risk to the health and lives of many.
He further urged the public to act responsibly and not indulge themselves and manipulated by such requests as it will invite legal actions.
