#Cyclone Fani: Eastern Air Command on standby, Headquarters sized up for rescue operation

Shillong, May 3, 2019:

In alertness of an emergency related to the devastating cyclone Fani, six light helicopters with a winch for rescue work, five medium-lift helicopters for deploying the relief material and four AN 32 aircraft have been kept ready by the Eastern Air Command with medical relief teams for ferrying relief material, medical help and NDRF teams with equipment.

Helicopters have been kept ready at Bagdogra and Purnea for quick deployment in Odisha and West Bengal.

In addition at Silchar Kumbhigram, medium-lift helicopters have been kept standby for the phase when the storm would start to affect the states of Tripura Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland.

The operations center would be established in either Odisha or West Bengal depending on the situation as it unfolds.

Operations are being supervised by  Air Mshl Sandeep Singh, SASO HQ EAC
