The National People’s Party (NPP) suffered a setback in the run-up to Ranikor Assembly constituency by-poll when its leader Lastborn Pariong joined the United Democratic Party (UDP) on Saturday.
Pariong’s move follows his being dropped from the post of president and being replaced by Kitborlang Nongrem last week.
The former NPP leader joined the UDP along with his followers at a public meeting at Nongnah on Saturday.
UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh, working president Paul Lyngdoh, vice president Titosstarwell Chyne, MDC Manstudy Nongrem and former BJP leader Pelcy Snaitang, among others, were present on the occasion.
