SHILLONG: Heeding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's clarion call, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has appealed all to go "vocal for local" in Diwali 2020. The new slogan 'vocal for local' means to not only buy local products but be vocal about promoting them proudly.
On Diwali 2020, Sangma has appealed the people of the state to use and gift products made locally by the artisans of Meghalaya. The products, Sangma said, are produced and crafted by women weavers and artisans working with the Department of Textiles, Meghalaya. These initiatives are being seen as the Meghalaya Government's efforts to give employment to a section of women.
"This Diwali, let us support Hon'ble PM @NarendraModi ji's clarion call to go #VocalForLocal by using & gifting locally-made products. These products are locally produced & crafted by #women weavers & artisans working with #Meghalaya's department of textiles," Sangma said in a tweet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (November 9) made a fervent appeal to people that along with ‘vocal for local’, they should promote ‘local for Diwali’ big time and buy local products this festival season.
Celebrating Diwali with local will give a new boost to the economy, he said.
While extending festival greetings to people, Modi said, “You are seeing today that along with vocal for local, the mantra of local for Diwali is resonating everywhere.”
When every person will buy local products with pride, will talk about local products, hail them and will take the message to others that our local products are so good, this message will go far, Modi added.
