Shillong, July 13, 2019:

The disaster of floods has not even spared the quaint little Mawlynnong town of Meghalaya, which is renowned for its cleanliness.

The grim floods, which have affected the entire Northeast region, have proved to be a spoiler for tourists too as they have chosen to mostly stay away from one of the most popular tourist destinations in the entire Northeast region due to the flooding and incessant rainfall.

In fact, the latest visuals from the town which have reached Inside Northeast show that the well-known 'living root bridge' has also been submerged by flood water falling down from the hilly areas.

Mawlynnong is a village in the East Khasi Hills district of the Meghalaya state in North East India. It is notable for its cleanliness. It comes under the Pynursla community development block and Vidhan Sabha constituency.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma has assured the MLAs of Phulbari and Rajabala that all necessary measures will be taken as a precautionary intervention in wake of flood in plain belt areas of the hill state.

It is to be mentioned that the entire state is facing incessant rainfall and floods. Moreover, landslides continue to cause damage to property across several regions. Moreover, school buildings and Government offices have also been destroyed, as per official reports. The SDRF, local police, as well as boats have been deployed to rescue the people affected by floods. Almost all the districts have been affected.
