Meghalaya: All COVID Patients on Path towards Recovery, Confirms Health Minister

Shillong, April 28, 2020:

Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister Al Hek has confirmed to Inside Northeast that all the 11 COVID-19 patients in the state are well on the path towards recovery.

Talking to us earlier today, Hek said, "Right now, our Government is focused on containing the spread of the virus, and we have been successful to a certain degree. Eleven of the patients are still undergoing treatment, while one has died."

The patients, however, Hek said, are on their way towards recovery. "I don't see any possibility of any further casualties and none of the patients have any symptoms. All of the patients are recovering now. They are all stable and normal. 3 patients are in the corona care centre in Shillong, while the others have been quarantined at home", Hek informed.

Meanwhile, in Meghalaya, 1,254 samples have been sent for testing to date out of which, 1,182 individuals have been tested negative. The state's health department awaits 60 reports.

In total, 24,382 individuals have been screened and the contact tracing of 181 primary contacts and 3,147 secondary contacts has been completed. 6,434 individuals are under home quarantine and 308 are under institutional quarantine.

In terms of health infrastructure, Meghalaya currently havs 86,386 PPE kitss, 5,10,000 3 Ply Masks, and 94,770 N95 Masks, official reports said.

All primary contacts under home quarantine are being visited by a team of doctors in their residences and being monitored very closely. The Team has so far completed more than

48 teams have been formed by the Deputy Commissioner's office, East Khasi Hills District for making home visits for all the secondary contacts. All others under home quarantine have been advised for self-isolation for 14 days and to report if any of the symptoms appear.

At the same time, 9,658 applicants are being screened out of the 10,287 registered applicants for the CM's Special Grant for individuals from Meghalaya stranded in other States. Details of 7,891 verified applicants have been sent to the bank to provide them with economic relief.

Meanwhile, 2,33,193 migrant labourers have been registered for the special assistance of Rs. 2100 and 1,84,184 applications have been found to be "eligible." Under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, as many as 89,330 farmers from Meghalaya have been provided with financial assistance by the ruling administration.
