With the fear still looming large of possible influx of illegal immigrants from neighbouring Assam, where the complete draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published on 30th July, the Meghalaya government has instructed contractors engaging labourers from outside the State to get them registered.
This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong before media persons here on Monday.
He said the Labour Department, of which he is in-charge, will not issue any permit if the workers lack proper documents.
Tynsong said the Labour Department had recruited an inspector for each block to ensure compliance.
