Meghalaya CM Seeks Central Govt Intervention to Make Baljek Airport Operational

Tura, September 3, 2019:

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday inspected the Baljek Airport with officials of Airport Authority of India, in presence of Meghalaya Home Minister James K Sangma and Advisor Thomas A Sangma.

The National People's Party (NPP) leader also discussed measures to speed up intervention to make the airport operational.

Baljek Airport is a public airport located at Baljek, 33 km North-east of Tura in Meghalaya, India. The proposal for the airport was sent to the Central Government in 1983 and the project was sanctioned in 1995. The airport was inaugurated in October 2008.

The airport was constructed at a cost of Rs 12.52 crore, but it is yet to become fully operational.
