SHILLONG: Conrad Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, embraced the spirit of adventure recently as he trekked the historic David Scott Trail from Mawphlang to Lad Mawphlang, covering an impressive 16 kilometers in a mere four-and-a-half hours.

Later, Sangma uploaded on a video social media recording snippets from his long trek.

Sangma has appealed everyone to preserve the David Scott Trail as it is connected to the history of Meghalaya and is a promising tourist attraction. "The trail is linked with our State's history and the resistance of our people against Colonial rule. With well-versed guides, this Trail can be part of a tourism package for tourists who love history and adventure. I urge everyone to preserve such tourism locations that are important to State's history.

"Throughout the trek, our guide, Babiangthew Warjri explained the history behind the trail which was a horse trail laid by the Britishers to connect Khasi Hills to Sylhet (now Bangladesh) and how the great freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem led a rebellion to fight against the British occupation of Khasi Hills," Sangma shared in the caption to the video.

It was a long but beautiful trek that was filled with mesmerizing views- waterfalls, crystal clear streams, scenic valleys, forests, and meadows, Sangma recalled.
