Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has informed that the Meghalaya Government is planning to introduce a 'Garo Exchange Programme' in order to bring the Garos living across the world on a common platform.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister made this revelation during the recently held 100 Drums Wangala festival that was recently held in Meghalaya by the Garo tribe.
Addressing a festival gathering in Anasang village, Sangma said that the traditional lifetyle of the Garo community can be preserved by initiating exchange programmes among the Garo community residing in various parts of the world.

Adding that discussions have already been held with Bangladesh MP Jewel Arang to begin exchange programmes with the Garos of Bangladesh, Sangma also revealed that plans are underway to incorporate Garos from Assam and Bangladesh into this proposed cultural exchange programme.
It is noteworthy to mention here that Sangma has also informed that a Tribal Research Institute, a longtime dream of his late father, P A Sangma, is under construction in Babadam region. The institute, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 48 crores shall full become a full-fledged University, Conrad Sangma informed.
Recently, a 20-member delegation from Meghalaya met Garo brethren in Bangladesh, who turned up in large numbers to hear the Meghalaya speak. Tweeting about the interaction with the Bangladesh-dwelling Garos, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had tweeted, “I am glad that I got an opportunity to connect with Garo community of Bangladesh as my friend Jewel Areng, MP (Bangladesh) organised a get together programme during my visit to Dhaka.”
