Meghalaya Governor returns KHADC Bill

Shillong (Meghalaya), 4 Aug 2018

In a major development, Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad returned the controversial Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Khasi Social Custom of Lineage) (Second Amendment) Bill, 2018 to the District Council Affairs Department.

The Bill was returned for further examination before the Governor could give his assent, a government source explained.

There was, however, no mention of anything in the file other than the need to examine the Bill.

The Bill has generated much heat in the State with women’s groups terming it “sexist”.
