The Meghalaya government has announced Rs.1 lakh each as interim relief to families of the 15 miners trapped in the illegal ‘rat-hole’ coal mine in the East Jaintia Hills district since December 13, and further urged Coal India Ltd to provide them with high power submersible pumps to rescue the miners.
The announcement was made as per the directions of the National Green Tribunal Committee (NGT). The government gave the approval on Friday for which notices were sent to the family members of the miners.
