MEGHALAYA: LAND DISPUTE IS THE CAUSE BEHIND THE UNREST: CM

The ongoing fermentation in the state marked by curfew, flag march, suspension of internet connection etc has created a social unrest. Sources has it that due to a squabble between a women of Punjabi Community and a boy of Khasi Community. However in an interview with Inside NE ,CM Conrad Sangma stated that the actual cause is the long standing land dispute, and there had been claims and counter claims regarding it, however the incident of tiff acted as a spark recurring the issue again.He also stated about the misleading messages in social media from both the sides further aggravating the situation. When asked about the Land dispute he stated " There has been a proposal for shifting those people but we haven't reach a concrete decision yet. But a committee to sort the matter has been formed under the aegis of the Deputy Chief Minister. We strive will take the matter forward engulfing all the communities." However he stated that the unrest has somewhere doused and would soon see absolute normalcy.

However member of National Minority community, Manjit Singh Rai stated that since the people of the Punjabi community has been residing for over a period of 200 years no question of relocation arises.

Thus it will be a matter of concern to see if the havoc in the state actually turns to normalcy restoring peace
