Meghalaya: New academic session for 2021-22 to begin on April 1

SHILLONG: Meghalaya's government has announced that the winter break in the state will begin from December 21. The schools will reopen on January 11, 2021. The State government has also fixed April 1 next year as the date for commencing the new academic session for 2021-22. 

A notification in this regard was issued by the Principal Secretary for the Meghalaya Education Department, DP Wahlang. 

The notification stated that the “Adjusted Academic Calendar” for all classes has been revised, except those appearing for Board Examinations in 2021. 

Classes for Standard 9 to 12 will fully reopen on January 11 next year in both urban and rural areas for completion of courses and preparation of the Board Examination, 2021. 

Classes for standard 6 to 8 will fully re-open in rural areas and partially open in urban/semi-urban towns of Shillong, Jowai, Nongpoh, Tura, Byrnihat, Jorabat, and Khanapara. 

Classes for Standard 1-5 will partially open in rural areas and remain closed in urban/semi-urban towns. 

“The school managing committee shall consult with the stakeholders – parents, district health officials, and local community – prior to reopening of any category of classes,” the notification stated.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government recently declared that the night curfew in the West Garo Hills district has been extended to December 22 in order to prevent further spread of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The curfew will be in force between 10 pm to 5 am everyday till December 22.
