Meghalaya | New High Court Chief Justice Sworn in

Shillong, May 28, 2019:

Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal has been sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court on Tuesday.

Mittal was sworn in by Governor, Tathahatha Roy as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya at Raj Bhavan in Meghalaya capital Shillong.

The President of India has recently appointed Mittal as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya after the Supreme Court Collegium on April 8 recommended his name.

Mittal, who was the judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Courts, has replaced Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, who has attained the age of superannuation this month.

Mir took oath as Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya on May 21, 2018 and remits his office on May 27, 2019.

Born on September 30, 1958 at Chandigarh, Mittal passed B.Com. (Hons.) from Sri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University in 1977 and did his LL.B. from Faculty of Law, Delhi University in 1980.

He was elevated to the Bench of Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 9, 2004. He remained as Acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court from May 4 2018 to 2 June 2018.
