Shillong: The Meghalaya government on Monday informed that it has no plans to resume lower classes in the schools.

Schools have been permitted to reopen for activities such as teacher-student counselling, clearing doubts, addressing hard spots, sharing units, lesson plans, assignments, submission of works, student assessment programmes, etc., in accordance with the guidelines issued by the state education department in September this year.

Earlier, Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui informed that regular academic activities for schools and other educational institutions would continue to be suspended until further orders and a decision in this regard would be taken after November 5.

The Education department is holding consultations with different stakeholders before taking a call on resuming routine academic activities in the state.

However, the usual rush of students was missing on the first day of the partial reopening of schools here on Monday as the institutions maintained a staggering attendance.

Amid the immensity of the COVID-19 situation in the city, very few students attended classes, which however were not regular classes, but more of an interactive session between teachers and students.
