Meghalaya Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the leader of Khasi Students’ Union’s (KSU) Ri-Bhoi district wing for barging into the Umiam Police Station and slapping the Officer-in-Charge.
In an incident of October 15, KSU leader Ferdynald Kharkamni, along with a group of boys, entered the Police station and slapped the OC, Sub-inspector, L. Syngkhon. He also assaulted the head constable, B Bordoloi.

The Police department has lodged an FIR against Kharkamni after a video of the incident went viral on social media. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ri-Bho district, C Syrti informed about the FIR.
According to a local website, Syllad, the Head constable, B Bordoloi and the other personnel were on patrolling duty in ICAR area. After receiving a telephonic information from his OC that there was some trouble in Sumer area falling under the jurisdiction of Umiam Police Station, they rushed to the spot.

They found that a non-tribal individual, Amir Ali, was assaulted by some local people and one of the suspects, along with Ali, were then brought to the Umiam police station.
In the FIR lodged against the KSU leader, it is mentioned that Kharkamni came to the Police Station and punched him thrice ‘without any rhyme and reason’ in front of the Officer-in-Charge causing injury to him.

The Head constable also expressed his concern over the assault despite being in full uniform. “I would like to request you to take strict action against the person for showing his power as an NGO for obstructing police personnel to perform their duty,” Syllad reported Bordoloi pleading in his FIR while demanding justice from his superior.
The SP of Ri-Bhoi district informed that investigation is going on in this matter.
