No illegal immigrant found so far: Meghalaya cops

Meghalaya Police has said that not a single illegal immigrant has been found in the State so far after intensification of drive against such suspects following publication of complete NRC draft in Assam.

Confirming this, Superintendent of Police (Infiltration) Debangshu Sangma explained that in the ongoing drive against infiltration, seven to eight persons, mostly labourers, were barred from entering Meghalaya as they did not possess proper documents to prove their identity and were sent back.

But, no foreign national has been detected till date, he stressed.

Sangma, however, assured that personnel of the anti-infiltration unit and the police would continue to check documents of visitors to the State.
