Over Rs 12 lakh seized in Ranikor

Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 20, 2018:

Police seized over Rs 12 lakh in cash belonging to four traders at Rajaju under Ranikor civil sub-division on Friday. The seizure assumes significance as by-election to Ranikor and South Tura Assembly constituencies is scheduled on 23^rd August.

However, sources said there was no evidence to suggest that the money amounting to Rs 12,86,000 that was being carried by the four businessmen was meant for electoral purpose, and nor did they have any political affiliation.

But, no withdrawal slips for the cash too were found, the sources added.

The cash was sent to the court and the matter will now be examined by an appellate committee.
