Guwahati, November 25, 2018:

Social activist Amita Sangma has accused a senior leader of the National People’s Party (NPP) of being involved in the attack on her and activist Agnes Kharshiing.

Amita in a letter addressed to DGP R Chandranathan accused NPP (East Jaintia Hills unit) working president and some other NPP members of being involved in the attack. She demanded immediate arrest of Nidamon Chullet.

In the letter to the DGP she said, “I appeal to your office to take swift action as it is learnt that Chullet and others who led the attacks belong to the ruling party in the state.”

Following these allegations, the Congress in Meghalaya has demanded for an independent probe on the issue as a senior party member of the NPP has been accused of being involved in the issue.

It may be mentioned that Agnes Kharshiing along with two other people were attacked and severely injured by suspected coal mafias in East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya on November 8.
