AIZAWL: Dr. Kambhampati Haribabu was sworn in as the Governor of Mizoram at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Aizawl this afternoon.

With the total lockdown enforced within the capital city area from July 18, the oath-taking ceremony of the new Governor was attended by only a handful of special invitees.

Dr. Kambhampati Haribabu was administered the oath of office by Justice Michael Zothankhuma on behalf of the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

The Warrant of Appointment of Dr. Kambhampati Haribabu as the Governor of Mizoram was read out by Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuango.

The official photograph session was held after the ceremony at the upper lawn of Raj Bhavan.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, Shri Tawnluia, Deputy Chief Minister, Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo, Council of ministers, Chief Secretary, DGP, and leaders from political parties as well as NGOs.

The life of Kambhampati Haribabu:

Kambhampati Haribabu was born on June 15 of 1953 to the late Kambhampati Venkateswarlu and late Seethamma in Thimmasamudram, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh.

He is married to Kambhampati Jayasree and the couple have two daughters and two grandchildren. After he has finished his schooling, he relocated to Visakhapatnam to pursue his B.Tech (Electronics and Communication engineering) at the Andhra University.

After he had completed his masters, ME (Electrical &Control Systems) as well as Ph.D. (Control Systems) from the same university, he joined the same university as an associate professor for 24 years in the University’s engineering college. While working as an associate professor, he decided to serve the public in another role and voluntarily retired in the year 1993 to become active in politics.

Before his appointment to the Governor of Mizoram, Dr. Kambhampati Haribabu was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly from Visakhapatnam-I Constituency in 1999 and was made the Floor Leader for the Bharatiya Janata Legislature Party, Andhra Pradesh, in 2003.

He was then elected as the President of the Andhra Pradesh BJP in 2014 and then became the Member of Parliament (MP), Lok Sabha from Vishakhapatnam during the 16th Lok Sabha.

Prior to his appointment as the Governor of Mizoram, Dr. Kambhampati Haribabu has held an important position as BJP National Executive Member (2018-2021).
