As Mizoram goes to polls, a report by two civil society organisations have claimed Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla is among nine candidates who are facing criminal cases out of the 200 candidates.
It is not only the CM but former CM and Mizo National Front (MNF) president, Zoram Thangaalso also has criminal chargers on him. This was reported by the Mizoram Election Watch (MEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The reports are based on the affidavits filed by them to the Election Commission.
The other candidates for the election who have criminal charges on them are V Malsawmtluanga (Independent), VI Zahawma Chawngthu (BJP), Rasik Mohan Chakma (MNF), Lalduhpuii (BJP), James Thanghmingmawia (Congress) and R Lalthangliana (MNF).
The report said that out of these candidates, four are facing “serious” criminal cases.
